Colección Primavera-verano 2013 Kyoto de Craig Smith para Fruition Hair

Underpinned by the distinctive aesthetic of Comme Des Garçons, this art inspired collection is a sculptural composition that explores the strength of contour, to create an authentically innovative hair collection.

Taking conceptual direction from the iconic Dior illustrations of Rene Gruau, this is a story of real energy, feminine elegance and an audacious vision to deliver something distinctly different.

With the physical manifestation of 6 sculptured women in mind, each look was to be defined first by the hair shape, a design created to compliment the unique profile of each face.

From here, strong direction was provided in relation to the delicate position of the hands, a conventional cue to the gentle Japanese culture and perfect canvas for the Design House signature of exaggerated sleeves and overstated tailoring.

Photographed in nude body stockings, the 6 selected shots were then provided to acclaimed Fashion Illustrator Peter Dwyer (peterdwyerdesign.blogspot.com.au) with the creative direction of creating voluminous swathes of fabric and innovative tailored shapes to compliment the hair designs.

A flourish of colour was then applied to inject a fresh and spirited feeling of youth into what is traditionally a monochromatic collection.

Says Smith,
“I really wanted to push the boundaries of a traditional hair collection. I wanted to evolve as an artist and create real cohesion with a team of individuals that could see what I envisioned.

For me, the Kyoto collection is about being courageous and determined to be progressive, and to work holistically with each artist involved within the creative process of image making.”
