Inspiration

For my collection my inspiration comes from the youth in society today. The way that their lives are very self-focussed, and the attention is turned more inward than outward. How everyone takes the hundreds of “selfies” wherever they go and as a whole people are becoming more self-centred and numb to the world around them. As an extension of this I placed the idea of being one’s self as the centre of the universe in an almost “Godlike” way and hence the name I [ai]

Using this idea I took inspiration from the visually stimulating ancient oriental paintings of different gods and mythological animal images, including the Dragon and the Phoenix and the Japanese God of thunder (Raijin) as well Guan Yin, along with the head pieces and accessories that these gods wear. The beautiful depiction of the auras of the gods were also of inspiration and used in the creation of the hairpieces.
