Colección 2016_1 Aftermath de Xiang Hair

An oil spill in the ocean; a bird caught in that spill drenched in oil.

It determinedly ruffles its feathers, and tries to get clean not knowing what had happened and why it is in this predicament.

Its sole purpose is to survive no matter what the consequence.

This vivid struggle and determination is the anchor of this collection; maybe we can learn something from nature and its determination to revive and regenerate however hard the struggle?

Aftermath - is a narrative of how humans have contributed to the ruination of Earth and how this planet repairs itself.

It is a story of devastation, realisation and invigoration.

The colour palette is gleaned from an oil spill - something tragic but also inherently beautiful.

Picture a cloak of thick unguent oil spreading across the sea in myriad iridescent hues slowly engulfing the water and everything in it.

Colours of pinks, greens, blues, purples intermingled with gold, silver, mother of pearl and opal.

The shapes of the styles are influenced by strong man-made architectural structures.

We wanted to create three-dimensional shapes using cut and angles on photography.

We drew inspiration from iconic structures like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge as well as designs by great architects like Frank Gehry, I.
M.
Pei and Daniel Libeskind - all about severity intermingled with soft lines and rigid movement.

Beauty is inherently everywhere and Aftermath is not just about the consequences but also the possibilities of something better; it is nature versus nurture.
It is not what happened but what we make out of it and how we improve it.

When all is said and done - uncompromised individualism is the backbone of these looks.
