Setsuna

Setsuna - Toni & Guy collection

Collection Inspiration

SETSUNA is a commendable epilogue to Kano’s 2015 collection URBAN UKIYO, as the artist continues to explore street style with a strong Japanese vein.  By maintaining a general creative direction that derives from a personal preference to a gender neutral aesthetic and the presentation of strong haircutting techniques, a very distinctive trademark is emerging for this artist, who continues to produce images that are immediately identifiable as part of her portfolio.

Kenzo’s 2016 A/W Menswear collection features as a strong inspirational stimulus throughout this collection; from face art replication to the subversion of conventional beauty.  Just as Kenzo’s Carol Lim looks to ‘shake up the jungle world of fashion’ Kano presents an alternative perspective of hair fashion that conjures a mood of unique self-expression.

Disconnection features heavily within this collection, with pops of acid yellow and violet adding an element of grunge.  The male models present diverse textures via three distinct styles including a sharp head shaving design; bulbous bowl cut and loosely layered curls.  A dusty blonde mullet, choppy bob and editorial long hair look complete the line up from the female contingent, the overall result packing an unquestionably strong street savvy punch.

The fashion palette is 100% black inclusive of accessories and jewelry which feature heavily, whilst make up is used to emphasize the sub-cultural connection between each individual.  The photographic crop has been kept tight to focus on the hair design whilst over-engineering in post-production has been purposefully avoided to maintain a raw and unaffected finish.
